Food industry of Ukraine – action plans and Roadmap for the green recovery and transformation of the Ukrainian food industries.
The food industry in Ukraine is diverse and serves both domestic and foreign markets. Food products are the third-largest export item after metals and grains, and most of them are sold to EU countries. The Food Industry proved to be more resilient to the extreme war-time conditions than other manufacturing sectors.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine announces the completion of work on the Roadmap and Action Plans for the Green Recovery of Ukraine's Food Industry
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, in partnership with UNIDO | United Nations Industrial Development Organization and with the financial support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), presents the completion of the Roadmap and Action Plans for the Green Recovery and Transformation of the Food Industry of Ukraine.
Developed in partnership with UNIDO, these materials contain practical recommendations and analytical findings to increase the sustainability, resilience and compliance with EU standards in the food industry of Ukraine.
The Roadmap and Action Plans cover key sectors, such as dairy products, fruits and berries, honey, cereals, poultry meat and eggs, vegetable oil and sugar, as well as cross-sectoral areas, including food quality and safety and packaging.
The Roadmap and Action Plans: Propose a clear vision of sustainable recovery; Identify sectoral opportunities and challenges; Provide practical steps to modernize and strengthen the resilience of the food industry of Ukraine.
"This initiative is a cornerstone of the modernization of Ukraine's food industry. Thanks to the invaluable support of UNIDO and BMZ, it provides us with the tools to turn challenges into opportunities, contributing to the creation of a sustainable and competitive sector," emphasized the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Vitaliy Koval.
This roadmap serves as a guiding framework for development partners, government policymakers, and industry leaders to collectively work toward several key objectives and to identify investments and programmes to achieve them
To focus on the most promising and resilient food sectors and sub-sectors, the following prioritisation criteria were applied: export growth, trade surplus, global ranking, EU market importance, war impact, and opportunities for deep processing. Six sectors and 14 sub-sectors, such as livestock products, milk and milk products, vegetable oils, berry and fruits, sugar, and grain processing, are selected based on these criteria.
