2024-2025 - Bake4Ukraine – SME bakeries support in the regions that are effected by the war

The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine supports the initiative Bake4Ukraine contributing to Ukraine’s recovery and food security efforts.

In December 2024 the Dutch Ambassador to Ukraine, Mr. Alle Dorhout, visited Zeelandia Ukraine’s facilities and the inclusive center of Charity Organization “Perspectiva 21.3” in Brovary for official launch of the project. Supported by the Embassy Fund, the project aims to strengthen small and medium-sized (SME) bakeries in regions affected by the war, strengthening local food security and fostering social inclusion.

About the project

In the framework of the project  the second hand bakery equipment, and other supplies will be provided to small, and medium size bakeries and NGOs that are serving in regions effected by the war, and set up Maintenance and Reparation Facility to enable restoration of the bakery machines supplied within the project.

Bakery industry in Ukraine is strongly impacted by the russian aggression since Feb 2022, especially in regions directly affected by the war.

Some companies in the eastern and southern parts of Ukraine relocated their production, while others had to close their bakeries. The primary providers of baked products to these markets become small-scale bakery companies and individual bakers.

The project objectives are:

  • to support SME bakeries and NGOs that are supplying fresh bread to near front line regions and regions that were under occupation with used and new equipment and other supplies (baking forms, trays, etc.)
  • establish reparation and maintenance centre for 2nd hand bakery machines
  • roll out awareness campaign among Western European bakers about needs of bakeries in Ukraine and motivate to donate equipment and tools.

Zeelandia Ukraine has consistently played a crucial role in ensuring food security across Ukraine. Specializing in the production of essential baking and confectionery ingredients, the company has established a state-of-the-art production facility, laboratory, and training center in Brovary. These efforts underscore Zeelandia Ukraine’s commitment to local development and the empowerment of Ukrainian businesses. The company’s past initiatives have significantly contributed to Ukraine’s resilience in the face of ongoing challenges.

Zeelandia Ukraine  together with Charity Organization “Perspectiva 21.3” is at the forefront of fostering social inclusion in Ukraine. By providing practical training and employment opportunities to individuals with mental and learning difficulties, the organization equips its students for a brighter future. Its inclusive bakery in Brovary serves as both a training center and a symbol of empowerment, embodying the organization’s mission to create meaningful change. The #Bake4Ukraine project unites Zeelandia Ukraine and Perspectiva 21.3 under a shared vision: to support SME bakeries in frontline regions impacted by war.

With funding from the Embassy of the Netherlands, the initiative focuses on delivering essential bakery equipment to war-affected regions, establishing repair facilities for damaged bakery equipment, and creating job opportunities, particularly for women, girls, and individuals with disabilities. By revitalizing local food production capabilities, #Bake4Ukraine aims to ensure a stable supply of bread and baked goods for communities in need while fostering economic recovery.
