Outlook for Ukrainian Agricultural Market with Results for 2024
Ukrainian Agribusiness Club Association (UCAB) jointly with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine presents the first outlook of the Ukrainian agricultural market - analysis of the dynamics and structure of production and agricultural products to global world markets in 2024.
The document covers key positions of crop and livestock production - from wheat, corn and oil to dairy products and poultry meat, provides detailed information on production results and the main factors affecting it, and notes preliminary forecasts for future periods. It also highlights key export destinations, examines the evolution of export logistics routes, and analyzes the role of the Ukrainian agribusiness sector in shaping the nation's economy and ensuring global food security.
“This outlook systematizes information that will help our international and European partners to better understand the structure and volumes of the Ukrainian agribusiness sector debunking myths that Ukraine can “overfill” international markets, in particular the EU. I believe that this report will become a helpful tool for increasing transparency and improving understanding of the state of Ukraine’s agricultural sector during the war. After all, it is openness in relations with our international partners, in particular the EU, that is the path of success to our joint prosperity,” emphasized the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaliy Koval.
According to the study, although the full-scale invasion caused the Ukrainian agri sector more than $80 bln in direct damages and losses, the importance of agriculture continues to be more than significant: in 2024, the agricultural sector generated 59,3% ($24,7 bln) of foreign exchange earnings from the export of goods from Ukraine. In 2021, this indicator was 40.7% ($27.7 bln).
At the same time, in recent years, the EU's share of agri-food exports has not been lower than 50%, which indicates the critical importance of the European market not only for Ukrainian producers, but also for the Ukrainian economy as a whole.
“In this critical period of Ukraine’s history, the agricultural sector serves not only as a foundation for economic recovery but also as a bridge to deeper European integration. It is our hope that this document will serve as a valuable resource for stakeholders and a catalyst for fostering international collaboration, innovation, and investment in Ukraine’s agricultural future”, – added Oleh Khomenko, General Director of UCAB.
UCAB sincerely thanks the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine for its support and active assistance in the preparation and development of this study.
