Highlights Agroberichten Buitenland is de wekelijkse nieuwsbrief van het LNV Attaché Netwerk. U wordt iedere week geattendeerd op nieuws, activiteiten en achtergrondinformatie van onze LAN teams die werkzaam zijn op de economische clusters van 62 Nederlandse ambassades en/of consulaten en van daaruit 77 landen bedienen. Ook zijn ze vertegenwoordigers voor Nederland bij internationale organisaties: EU in Brussel, FAO/WFP/IFAD in Rome en OESO in Parijs. De LNV-raden en LNV-attachés komen donderdagmiddag 6 juni 2024 bij Fort bij Vechten in Bunnik bijeen om persoonlijk en informeel met u in gesprek te gaan. Ze kijken er naar uit om u daar te ontmoeten. De bijeenkomst wordt georganiseerd door het ministerie van Landbouw, Natuur en Voedselkwaliteit (LNV). At the heart of global efforts to ensure food security lies the collaboration between member nations and the Rome-based United Nations agencies. One of them is the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), which embodies the international community's commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger. Central to these efforts is the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands. With an agenda that spans from agricultural productivity to environmental sustainability, the Permanent Representation uses its expertise and diplomatic skills to shape policies, create partnerships, and drive forward the agenda for a hunger-free world.
Recent price spikes in fertilisers have highlighted the agriculture sector's heavy reliance on these inputs, posing a challenge for policymakers tasked with regulating agricultural markets to ensure fertiliser affordability while mitigating environmental risks. The OECD has investigated this challenge in the report “Fertile Futures: Scenario Analysis on the Interconnected dynamics of Fertiliser and Agricultural Markets”. It offers insights into the complex interaction between fertiliser use, agricultural systems, food security, and environmental sustainability.
‘Voedselsoevereiniteit’ is de afgelopen jaren een centraal thema geworden in de Franse politiek, zeker na de coronacrisis en de oorlog in Oekraïne. Onnodige of grootschalige afhankelijkheid van import van voedsel is de Franse regering en boeren een doorn in het oog. Onder druk van de boerenprotesten dit voorjaar wordt ‘voedselsoevereiniteit’ nu opgenomen in de wetgeving als een vraagstuk van nationaal belang, en heeft de regering toegezegd de zelfvoorziening per sector in beeld te (laten) brengen. Doel is actieplannen op te stellen voor sectoren die zeer deficitair zijn, en afhankelijkheid van import te verminderen. Het eerste rapport is afgelopen maand uitgebracht, met een schat aan statistieken en getallen.
Frankrijk: mate van zelfvoorziening per sector in beeld gebracht
Tijdens een bezoek aan het bosrijke departement van de Vogezen, in het noordoosten van Frankrijk, presenteerde minister van landbouw en voedsel souvereiniteit Marc Fesneau op 15 april 2024 het nationale actieplan “schorskever en crisishout”. Het plan is met name gericht op percelen die zijn aangetast door schorskevers, droogte of stormen.

Serbia: Urban biodiversity project launched with Dutch participation
Van 16-18 april vond de jaarlijkse editie van de Food 4 Future Summit- Expo Foodtech 2024 plaats in Bilbao. Thema’s als kunstmatige intelligentie, big data, het Internet of Things (IoT) en andere disruptieve technologieën kwamen samen. Tijdens deze editie namen 287 exposerende bedrijven en 482 sprekers (uit 34 verschillende landen, o.a. NL) deel en bezochten 9.037 professionals uit de foodtech sector de Summit.

In April, TRAIDE published an agro-economic outlook for Rwanda, summarizing the current status of Rwanda's agricultural sector, the challenges and the potential. The report shows an extensive overview, which will benefit the Embassy of the Netherlands in Kigali, as well as the private sector looking into potential projects and programmes.
A 2021 study gave a handy overview of the Senegalese poultry sector and showed the potential for (Dutch) investments. Now it’s time to look into solutions that make the (animal) protein transition more resilient and allow countries like Senegal to make their food systems less dependent on external inputs.
Moving to a more self-sufficient and circular poultry sector in Senegal
A group led by Prof. Daniel Elias Mushi, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Tanzania Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, along with private sector representatives and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Dar es Salaam, visited the Netherlands in January 2024. The purpose was to gather insights on poultry health, genetics, feed, and value addition.

On the initiative of the Embassy of the United States of America and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Astana Kazakhstan, an Agricultural Embassy Group for the whole Central-Asian region was founded.
Kazakhstan: Agricultural Embassy Group in Central-Asia established
By 2028, the Kazakh government plans to double the volume of gross agricultural output to 33 billion euros, which is stated in the draft government resolution on the approval of the national project for the development of the agro-industrial complex. The project, which is called the "Strong Agro-Industrial Complex", will last from 2024 until 2028.
From 3-5 April, the LAN network conducted a Regional meeting for Agricultural Officers(AO) from different Dutch embassies of Asia, in Seoul, Korea. On Arbor Day, April 5, the group visited the private forest of Samsung Everland, the largest amusement park in Korea, and participated in a tree-planting event of the Dutch Ambassador and CEO of Everland. Through a discussion, the group learned about Korean Arbor Day and Korean efforts for reforestation.
