Ukraine: how to bring pollinators back to big cities
Municipal services with lawnmowers against biodiversity and adaptive practices to tackle climate change. Who will win?
For quite some years the eco activists in Ukraine lobby for no-mow maintenance of the public green areas. Recently even a puplic petition has been register to stop mowing the lawns in Kyiv. However from early spring to late autumn the sound of lawnmowers around the city opose this opnion of the residents of the big cities. The test fields have been allocated by City administration in different districts of Kyiv.
The Office of the Agricultural Counsellor supported the no-mow initiative and provided wild flower seeds to one of the test plot sowed after the road construction works. We invite you to see the results.
The demonstration project of Molter BV and Kornelis Nursery in Kyiv Park Veselka on its 3rd anniversary is still the most visited part of the park, attracting not only Instagram bloggers, children and people who love flowers, but greatly contribution to the biodiversity on the park – providing home, food and shelter for pollinators.
