For Ukraine's food security, it is necessary to build about 140-150 vegetable storage facilities

The lack of vegetable storages in Ukraine results in increased import of horticultural products, especially in spring.

Many storage facilities have been damages as a result of Russian aggression and war actions, also big number of storages remain on occupied territories. The relocated farms as well as the producers that started to grow vegetables recently need storage facilities in the regions where horticulture is just developing.

The lack of vegetable storages in Ukraine results in increased import of horticultural products, especially in spring. The construction of new vegetable storages will open up an opportunity for Ukraine to become more independent in vegetable and fruit supply to local market. In addition, this approach will ensure stable access of Ukrainian products on retail. Ukraine will be able to fully satisfy its internal needs and achieve food independence.

This was stated by the people's deputy, member of the Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy Dmytro Solomchuk.

"In Ukraine, it is necessary to build about 140-150 more vegetable storages. Currently, many agricultural producers use the old unofficial storage facilities and such conditions negatively affect the quality of products. Accordingly, already in April, some goods will have to be imported, because local produce is of poor quality. At the same time, Ukraine has all the possibilities to fully provide itself with agricultural products. And this year, the Ministry of Economy will provide more grants for processing and equipment for this. We should produce our agricultural products, because this is a sign of food independence," said the parliamentarian.

According to him, farmers continue their active work in the de-occupied territories.

"Land plots are being demined thanks to the work of the State Emergency Service, pyrotechnicians of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. For example, more than 50,000 hectares were cleared of explosives in the Kherson region. Thanks to international donors who provided equipment from the Charity Fund "Victory Harvest", last year farmers managed to sow seeds in the spring, harvest, carry out autumn work, and now they are preparing for spring field work. In the future, farmers will be provided with mobile warehouses to preserve their products," said the People's Deputy.
