Bulgarian exports grows by 24% in 2021
The value of agricultural goods Bulgaria exported to the EU showed the biggest increase: over 113% year-on-year.
Bulgarian goods worth BGN 67.9 bln reached foreign markets last year, according to statistical estimates reported by Capital daily. It means that Bulgarian export increased by 24% on-year and was 16% bigger than in the pre-crisis 2019. In December alone, exports were worth BGN 5.9 bln which was 32.5% more than this time a year earlier.
Last year, the key market for Bulgarian export-oriented companies was Europe and some two-thirds of the exports ended up there.
The foreign trade deficit increased by 27.5% to reach BGN 76.7 bln.
Statistics shows that exports to counties outside the EU increased by close to 20% last year, reaching BGN 22.6 bln. The result is a 7.5% increase from 2019. Turkey, China and the US were the largest non-EU trading partners of Bulgaria, accounting for 35% of the export to third countries in 2021. The increase of exports to third countries was most significant – double the 2020 levels - for Vietnam and South Korea.
