EU lifts quarantine restrictions on import of Ukrainian poultry
On January 17, the European Union lifted restrictions on the import of poultry from Ukraine, which had been in force since December 2020 due to outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the country.
The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection reported on its website:
"Poultry products make up a significant share of Ukrainian goods that are exported to the EU. Therefore, the removal of restrictions by the European Union is very important for our exporters. The decision made allows us to resume the export of poultry products throughout the country," head of the department Vladyslava Mahaletska said.
It is recalled that on March 17, 2021, the EU recognized the zoning of Ukraine for highly pathogenic avian influenza, allowing the import of poultry products from the territories where no outbreaks of avian influenza were recorded.
The State Food and Consumer Protection Service emphasized that in recent years the system of state control over the spread of bird flu in Ukraine has been repeatedly inspected by representatives of other countries (in particular, the EU, the United States, Japan, Canada, China), as a result of which the disease control mechanism was recognized as effectively working.
