Optimistic forecast for the wheat harvest in Bulgaria
The early forecast of the Centre for Agri-Policy Analysis (CAPA) for the grain harvest this year is quite optimistic, with some 5.8 million t expected to be harvested from the wheat fields alone, which is 15% more than last year.
The forecast in CAPA’s February 2021 bulletin is based on the current conditions of the wheat fields.
The initial forecasts of the CAPA experts were for an average wheat yield of some 4.9 t/ha. The weather conditions in the coming months will be critical for the crops.
The barley harvest is expected to be as last year’s: around 500,000 t with a per-ha yield of 4.6 t.
The rapeseed harvest is forecast to increase by around 25% to a yield of 2.7 t/ha. The total maximum rapeseed harvest for 2021-2022 is expected to reach 400,000 t. after decreasing to the 2012-2013 levels last summer.
CAPA estimates show that fields under winter crops this year are 2-3% smaller than last year. The fields which are expected to be sowed with wheat are around 1.2 million ha while those with barley will stay unchanged at around 115,000 ha and rapeseed will contract to 120,000 ha.
