Poland: third biggest outbreak ASF in 2020
3 new outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) in pig herds have been confirmed in Poland, reaching the number of 82 outbreaks this year. The affected farms are located in the east of Poland, unfortunately, one in a buffer zone. The outbreak in Warminsko-Mazurskie province is the third biggest outbreak in 2020 in Poland.
The Chief Veterinary Officer informed about the designation of new outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in pigs in the territory of the Republic of Poland. The outbreaks were confirmed in backyard farms and in one commercial farm in 2 provinces Poland: Podkarpackie and Warminsko-Mazurskie. The outbreak in commercial farm in Warminsko-Mazurskie province was located in a restricted area (red zone, area defined in part II of the Annex to EC Decision 2014/709/EU). One of the outbreaks in Podkarpackie province is located in a hazard areas (blue zone, area defined in part III of the Annex to EC Decision 2014/709/EU) and the second one in a protection area (yellow zone, area defined in part I of the Annex to EC Decision 2014/709/EU).
- Outbreak no. 80 was found on the farm where 6,480 pigs were kept, located in Zawroty, Morąg commune, Ostróda district, Warminsko-Mazurskie province.
- Outbreak no. 81 was found on the farm where 4 pigs were kept, located in Cetula, Wiązownica commune, Jarosław district, Podkarpackie province.
- Outbreak no. 82 was found on the farm where 70 pigs were kept, located in the town of Jarosław, Jarosław commune, Jarosław district, Podkarpackie province.
Outbreak no. 80 is the third biggest outbreak in 2020 in Poland, as regard the number of affected pigs. It is also the 8th outbreak in Warminsko-Mazurskie province this year. In the region 1126 ASF infected wild boars were detected until 3 September 2020, the most in Poland.
