Poland: ASF outbreak in pig farm 33 km from the German border
New outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) in pig herds have been confirmed in Poland, mostly in backyard farms, reaching the number of 79 outbreaks this year. The farms are located in the east of Poland, but one infection was confirmed also in a commercial farm in the west, app. 33 km in straight line from the German border.
The Chief Veterinary Officer informed about the designation of new outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in pigs in the territory of the Republic of Poland. The outbreaks were confirmed mostly in backyard farms in 3 provinces Poland: Lubelskie, Podkarpackie and Lubuskie. All outbreaks are located in a hazard areas (blue zone, area defined in part III of the Annex to EC Decision 2014/709/EU).
- Outbreak no. 75 was found on a farm where 48 pigs were kept, located in Zamch, Obsza commune, Biłgoraj district, Lubelskie province.
- Outbreak no. 76 was found on the farm where 12 pigs were kept, located in Stary Lubliniec, Cieszanów commune, Lubaczów district, Podkarpackie province.
- Outbreak no. 77 was found on a farm where 16 pigs were kept, located in Perespa, Tyszowce commune, Tomaszów district, Lubelskie province.
- Outbreak no. 78 was found on the farm where 6 pigs were kept, located in Markowicze, Księżpol commune, Biłgorajski district, Lubelskie province.
- Outbreak no. 79 was found on the farm where 594 pigs were kept, located in Pław, Dąbie commune, Krosno district, Lubuskie province.
Outbreak no. 79 in Lubuskie province is located app. 33 km in a straight line from the German border. In the region a high rate of ASF infection in wild boar is noted. As of 27 August 2020, in Lubuskie 764 infected wild boars were noted, which is the second highest number after Warminsko-Mazurskie province.
