ASF outbreak in commercial pig farm in eastern Poland
The Chief Veterinary Officer informed about the designation of the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in pigs in the territory of the Republic of Poland.
The 8th outbreak of ASF in Poland in 2020, was confirmed on the basis of the results of tests obtained from the national reference laboratory for ASF, on the farm, which kept 1,897 pigs (444 piglets, 507 weaners, 737 fattening pigs, 202 sows and 7 boars), located in Gorajec-Zastawie, in the Radecznica commune, Zamość district, in the Lubelskie province.
The farm is located in a hazard area (area defined in part III of the Annex to EC Decision 2014/709/EU), where previously ASF both in wild boars and in pig farms was noted.
On the farm where the ASF outbreak was designated, procedures related to the eradication of the disease were implemented.
This is the third ASF outbreak in the Lubelskie region this year. The previous ones were noted on backyard farms, this time a commercial farm with closed production cycle is affected. The new outbreak is located app. 26 km from the previous one (outbreak no. 7).
