New ASF outbreak in pig farm in eastern Poland
The Chief Veterinary Officer informed about the designation of the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in pigs in the territory of the Republic of Poland.
The 7th outbreak of ASF in Poland in 2020, was confirmed on the basis of the results of tests obtained from the national reference laboratory for ASF, on a farm where 10 pigs (5 weaners, 1 fattening pig and 4 sows) were kept, located in the village of Wola Wschańska, in the Obsza commune, in the Biłgoraj district, in the Lubelskie province.
The farm is located in a restricted area (area defined in part II of the Annex to EC Decision 2014/709/EU), where previously ASF both in wild boars and in pig farms was noted.
On the farm where the ASF outbreak was designated, procedures related to the eradication of the disease were implemented.
This is the second outbreak of ASF in Lubelskie province this year. The previous outbreak in the region was noted on a farm where 70 rare breed pigs (Mangalica breed) were kept in the open system (free-range), located in the north of the region, at the Polish-Belarussian border.
