Ukrainian fruit and nut exporters establish new record
Ukraine’s fruit and nut export volumes rose to a record high in February 2019 of USD 24.8 million, which represents a 35% year-on-year increase and is more than twice the figure achieved two years ago in February 2017. Walnuts accounted for the lion’s share of exports in this segment, representing 64% of total export revenues, while the share of apples rose from 8% to 14%.
The increase in fruit and nut exports is in line with broader expansion trends within the booming Ukrainian agricultural sector. Ukrainian exports of agricultural products increased year-on-year in January 2019 by 22.5% to reach USD 1.7 billion. The top five individual export markets for Ukrainian agricultural products were Egypt (USD 154 million), the Netherlands (USD 150 million), India (USD 144 million), Spain (USD 136 million) and Turkey (USD 112 million).
