The first Ukrainian biomethane has been exported to the EU/Germany.
On February 7, 2025, for the first time, biomethane produced by Vitagro in Ukraine from 100% livestock waste was exported to Germany in a "test delivery" of 720 MWh (~68,000 m³). The Vitagro plant will produce 3 million m³ (~30,000 MWh) of biomethane annually, which is equivalent to the annual gas consumption of 2,000 German households.

The VITAGRO Group of companies has begun exporting Ukrainian biomethane to the European Union. The group's biomethane plant, which was built between 2022 and 2024, started production in September 2024. Until that time, the company was injecting biomethane into Ukraine's gas transmission system.
ERU, together with its partners, will transport the biomethane from the Ukrainian-Slovak border to Germany.
VITAGRO is a leader among Ukrainian companies in this sector and is already considering further investment opportunities. The growing demand for sustainable biomethane in the EU, coupled with rising carbon emission prices, makes this market increasingly attractive for Ukrainian producers and foreign investors
The Vitagro group of companies intends to reach the planned capacity of the biomethane plant of 3 million cubic meters of biomethane per year in 2025 and, in case of successful exports, is ready to build two more plants to increase production and exports, said the company's director of development and investments Serhiy Savchuk in an interview with Forbes Ukraine.
"We have several projects in our plans. Construction of one plant in Khmelnytsky region, another in Rivne region. However, we have not yet begun construction, we must evaluate the export results. If we are satisfied, we will quickly build new projects. The total capacity of the two new plants is about 8 million cubic meters of biomethane per year," he said.
According to him, the group of companies is considering the option of attracting foreign investors to the capital. He added that currently, 20 tons of cattle manure or 70-80 tons of liquid manure are used to produce 1,000 cubic meters of biomethane at the plant in Khmelnytsky region. The Vitagro group of companies has its own cows and bulls - 5,700 animals, pigs – 106,000, the manure from which is the raw material for the production of biomethane. The plant employs 20 people, and 50 specialists were involved in the construction of the plant.
