Important step for biomethane development in Ukraine

The amendments to the Gas Distribution System Code regarding technical conditions for connecting biomethane producers’ facilities (installations) to the gas distribution system are adopted.

The National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC) of Ukraine has adopted amendments to the Gas Distribution System Code regarding technical conditions for connecting biomethane producers’ facilities (installations) to the gas distribution system. These amendments establish a single standard connection procedure for all future producers of biomethane and gases from alternative sources, providing them with access to the gas distribution network.

Details

Connection agreement. In order to connect biomethane facilities, it is necessary to conclude a connection agreement in the form set out in the Gas Distribution Systems Code. This agreement regulates the terms and conditions of connection, defining the rights and obligations of the parties.

Technical conditions of connection. An integral part of the connection agreement is the standard technical conditions for connection adopted by the NEURC as Annex 18 to the Gas Distribution Systems Code. They establish:

  • Initial data for the design of external networks: from the point of power supply to the point of connection, which are built by the Distribution System Operator.
  • Design of internal networks: from the point of connection to the customer’s equipment, which the customer (biomethane producer) is obliged to design and build.

The accepted technical requirements will allow to control the quality of biomethane and increase the security of gas transmission to the grid!
