NLWaterwayCleanup in Ukraine
This year cooperation in the water sector becomes extremely important for Ukrainian environment, agriculture, industries, communities and biodiversity.
After occupation of large areas in the East and South by RF, the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station and the draining of the largest fresh water reservoir, water is in focus and not only for the regions that suffer the most.
On September, 29 the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands of Ukraine together with Professional Association of Environmentalists of the World, Department of Environmental Protection and Adaptation to Climate Change of Kyiv City State Administration, State Ecological inspection, Municipal Enterprise "Pleso", eco-activists and representatives of the Dutch companies in Ukraine organized the NLWaterwayCleanup day and jointly cleaned the area around Vyrlytsia lake on the left bank of Kyiv.
This joint activity also brough together the experts in water sector and environment protection, so plans for future projects and initiatives have been discussed while cleaning the lakeland.
This NLWaterwayCleanup initiative was supported in other regions of Ukraine, where local communities cleaned the banks of their rivers.
The NLWaterwayCleanup event was a follow up of the WATER FORUM "WATER IN INDUSTRY AND AGRICULTURE IN THE CONDITIONS OF WAR AND CLIMATE CRISIS", organized by the Professional Association of Environmentalists of the World and Office of Sustainable Solutions on 26-27 September. The Embassy participated in the event together with the Dutch speaker - Agricultural Water Management Expert from FutureWater.
"Responsibility begins with conscientious attitude to the environment of every individual. I am grateful to everyone who, by their own example, demonstrates their deep concern when it comes to the cleanliness of water and the territory around them. I am also grateful to our Ukrainian partners who joined this year's NL Waterway Cleanup event in Kyiv," said Ambassador Jennes de Mol.

Microplastics are global problem, we talk about and try to solve. But the reality is that our waters are filled with plastics. With water these plastics end up in nature, animals and humans. This needs to stop!
That’s why the Netherlands organizes the annual #NLWaterwayCleanup.
In various parts of the world, Dutch embassies together with local partners organize cleaning of the riverbanks, lakelands, seas shores and oceans coasts, preventing plastic and other garbage from getting into the water. And remind everyone that we need to fix this problem.
This year's campaign is initiated by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine together with the Professional Association of Environmentalists of the World (PAEW) and we are grateful for support and assistance to the Department of Environmental Protection and Adaptation to Climate Change of Kyiv City State Administration and Municipal Enterprise "Pleso".
Together we solve global problems.
