Dutch-Ukrainain Agro IT Forum
February 18, 2020 the Dutch-Ukrainian AGRO-IT Forum was held as a part of the International Exhibition "AgroSpring 2020".
The forum was organized by Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine, Ukrainian Agribusiness Club Association, UCABevent Agency and Kyiv International Contract Fair. The main purpose of the forum was the acquaintance with new technologies which can help Ukrainian agriproducers to accomplish the global goals of the sustainable development and provision of food safety in the age of limited resource. The Forum gathered 104 representatives of the companies, knowkegde institutions, government and journalists.
Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine, Johannes Hermann Adrianus Cornelis de Mol, laid the positive tone of synergy and cooperation. "The Kingdom of the Netherlands and Ukraine are friends with plenty of possibilities for effective and long-term cooperation. The Netherlands can share innovative projects and research results; Ukraine is known for its resources and tradition," the Ambassador said.
In addition to improving production efficiency, the implementation of innovative technologies should significantly reduce the adverse environmental impact of agricultural activity and be the start of combating climate change. Dr. France Lips, Senior Policy Advisor at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, considers waste to be a major contributor to negative impacts. According to international studies, only a third of all food in the world is consumed. A third is lost at the production stage. A circular economy will be able to improve the situation. It is the principle of management under which the waste of one production process is used as raw material for another. "Dutch agriculture needs to be transformed into a circular economy. Precision farming can greatly contribute to this. In addition, digital technologies can improve ecosystem services and natural values," said Dr. France Lips.
Tamme van der Wal, Wageningen University, in his report, outlined the following global issues in addition to climate change:
- Urban overcrowding;
- Hunger
- Excessive use of natural resources
The implementation of innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, satellite data collection and analysis, according to Mr. van der Wal, will significantly improve the situation.
The real case of the use of digital technologies in crop monitoring (AgroCares BV) was shared by Alexander Zozulya, Head of Syngenta Technical Expert Group. The unevenness of the sprouts can be caused by many factors. Researches help you to fight the exact cause of the problem.
The results of the forum were summed up by a panel discussion "Practical application of AgTech tools in agricultural companies". The panel discussion was moderated by Bogdan Krivitsky, Technical Director of the IMC Agro Holding. Mykhaylo Joss, Head of Harvest and GIS and Precision Agriculture, Volodymyr Nagorny, Head of MHP Land Policy and Property Relations, Alexander Khizhnyak, IT Project Manager of Kernel, Mykhaylo Ivanov, Cygnet Agrocompany Information Technology Director, and Yuri Petruk, Head of AgTech Ukraine Association.
