Bulgaria: Wholesale Prices of Vegetables Rise

The price of tomatoes increased by 6.2% to BGN 2.40 per kg, cucumbers gained 29.2% to BGN 2.08 per kg.

The Market Price Index (MPI) of wholesale food prices remained unchanged at 2.029 points this past week, the Commodity Exchange and Wholesale Markets State Commission said. The baseline of 1.000 points was set in 2005.

The price of tomatoes increased by 6.2% to BGN 2.40 per kg, cucumbers gained 29.2% to BGN 2.08 per kg. Potatoes edged down by BGN 0.06 to BGN 1.06 per kg. Carrots edged up to BGN 1.09 per kg. Cabbage remained unchanged at BGN 0.82 per kg. 

Apples traded at BGN 1.45 per kg. Lemons edged up to BGN 3.08 per kg. Peaches lost 2.4% and traded at BGN 2.04 per kg. Apricots traded at BGN 2.25 per kg.

The wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk went up by 2.1%, and now trades steadily above BGN 10.00 per kg, at BGN 10.33 per kg this past week. Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese was selling at BGN 15.60 per kg. Sunflower oil was unchanged at BGN 4.99 per litre.

Butter gained 5.3% to BGN 2.80 per 125 grams. Chicken meat went up by 2.5% and was selling at BGN 6.07 per kg. Sugar gained BGN 0.03 and traded at 2.33 per kg. Grade 500 flour dropped by 5.9% to BGN 1.29 per kg. Rice gained 1.5% to BGN 2.76 per kg. Eggs were selling at BGN 0.27 apiece at the end of the week.
