The aim is to strengthen economic, cultural and social links in the region. An international forum will be held in Burgas and Constanta in early October: a conference and exhibition of producers from the area of the local initiative groups in Bulgaria, Romania and other EU member states.
Bulgaria publishes its first guidebook on green roofs
Bulgaria’s first guidebook on green roofs has just been published, Bulgarian National Radio said. Its author is Orlin Iliev of the Chamber of Investment Planning Engineers. Green roofs play an important role in improving urban environment. Roof vegetation reduces urban heat islands – areas with extremely high temperatures in summer which cause health and environmental problems. The Embassy of the Netherlands in Sofia has organized a series of events in recent years to popularize the “green city” concept where green roofs are an important element.

The seventh dual Doppler weather radar of the Bulgarian Hail Suppression Agency went into operation on July 1, 2021. Located near Shoumen in northeastern Bulgaria, scans the area within a 300-km scope every 4 minutes. It will thus provide 24-hour quality monitoring of the atmosphere over north-central and north-eastern Bulgaria. The information from the Shoumen weather radar station can be viewed on the Hail Suppression Agency website where one can get updates on cloud development and the risk of hail and torrential rain in the area.
1,800 Bulgarian fishery vessels in the Black Sea
There needs to be a differentiated approach to small-scale fishing in the Black Sea, the Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Georgi Subev, said at a high level meeting on a new vision for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, reported Balgarski Fermer weekly. The Bulgarian fishing fleet in the Black Sea comprises 1,800 vessels and their annual fish haul makes up some 2% of the total catch in the Black Sea. Deputy Minister Subev said that the Covid crisis has impacted adversely all activities related to fisheries and aquaculture, and the people employed in the sector. The high-level meeting adopted a new strategy for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea until 2030.
