Pork market in Poland

Limited supply of pork in the EU and lower demand from non-EU countries determine the results of pork exports from European Union countries.

EU export is stable

In the period January-October 2024, exports of pork products from the European Union to third countries, similarly to the same period in 2023, amounted to 3.6 million tonnes. Poland was the sixth EU exporter of pork, with a 6% share in volume (202 thousand tonnes).

Prices

Since mid-2024, pig prices in the EU have been decreasing due to lower demand for pork from previous importers – including China, Vietnam, the Philippines – and a decrease in domestic consumption in the EU. The same trend in price changes also occurred in Poland. According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, pig purchase prices in the second half of 2024 decreased by approx. 22%, i.e. from PLN 7.63/kg at the beginning of June 2024 to PLN 5.92/kg at the beginning of 2025.

According to data from the Central Statistical Office, the balance sheet consumption of pork in Poland is above 40 kg per person, while in the EU it is around 31 kg per person.
