Poles are spending more and more on bread. And consumer habits are also changing
Polish consumers' baskets no longer include not only bread, baguettes and kaiser rolls, but also buns for hot dogs or hamburgers. In 2024, Poles bought 1.2 million tons of bread.

The broadly defined bread category (in addition to bread or rolls, it also includes crisp bread or bread for hot dogs) was bought at least once by 99.9% of Polish households in 2024. This is according to YouGov CP Poland data.
It also indicated that each household bought something from this category more than 119 times and spent an average of more than 890 PLN (223 EUR) on it.
Of the segments analyzed, bread and rolls were the most popular, with more than 99.6 % of buyers purchasing such products. This was followed by crisp bread with more than 63 %, and toasted bread, which was bought by 60 %.
In terms of volume, bread and rolls are the absolute leader, with this segment accounting for almost 95 % of purchases. Toasted bread ranks second, with a share of 4 %, while the shares of crusty bread and bread for hot dogs and hamburgers are below 1 %.
The bread market in Poland (also in EU) has been changing in recent years, there is even a fashion for reducing bread consumption, although for the time being this is not strongly visible in the market data. It is also worth noting that bread is a frequently purchased category, but at the same time it is the most frequently thrown away.
