ITC – KU to Strengthen Dutch–Thai Geo-informatics Collaboration on Forest and Biodiversity
Over 50 of young generations from multiple stakeholders in Thailand active in forestry, biodiversity, and natural resources management are participating in the "Netherlands–Thai Geo-informatics Workshop 2024" at Kasetsart University in Bangkok on 28th October 2024.
Geo-information and earth observation data play a crucial role in forest and biodiversity management.
Our impact on the environment is immense, and without proper management, these environmental and natural resources will be depleted and degraded, sometimes irreversibly. Researchers at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), University of Twente, develop and apply earth observation and geo-informatics sciences to monitor trends, manage resources, and model future scenarios, enabling actions to sustain biologically diverse environments and productive agricultural systems, said Dr. Dinand Alkema at the Workshop. Founded in 1950 by Prof. Schermerhorn, a former Prime Minister and geodetic engineer, as the International Training Center for Aerial Survey (ITC), ITC is recognized worldwide for capacity development in geo-information science and earth observation through education, research, and institutional strengthening.
Netherlands–Thai Geo-informatics Workshop 2024 in Bangkok and Future Cooperation
The "Netherlands–Thai Geo-informatics Workshop 2024: Geo-informatics Technology for Forest & Biodiversity Management" is organized by the Netherlands Embassy in Bangkok–LVVN in collaboration with the Graduate School of Kasetsart University – Sustainable Land Use and Natural Resource Management Program (SLUSE) and the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), University of Twente. Mr. Gijs Theunissen DVM, the Netherlands Agricultural Counsellor, joins Assoc. Prof. Dr. Weeraphart Khunrattanasiri, Dean of the Graduate School – KU, to deliver the welcome remarks. Dr. Dinand Alkema from ITC - University of Twente and Dr. Manzul Kumar Hazarika, Director of the Geoinformatics Center at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), are guest speakers at the Workshop.
