Thailand is one of the internationally active players in plant-based and insect-based protein food.

Due to global climate change pressure, the worldwide increasing consumption of alternative proteins to substitute traditional livestock protein (pork, poultry, beef) reflects an interesting trend for the international agriculture and agro-food industry. Thailand has been actively playing a role not only as a producer but also in decades-long R&D on plant-based and insect-based proteins. Recently, a group of 'young entrepreneurs & academics' together with key players in Thai agriculture and the food industry with the ambition for sustainable future food security have jointly established the Thai Future Food Trade Association.

The Association aims to strengthen multi-stakeholder collaboration in the Thai agri-food ecosystem for a more innovative and sustainable future food industry with a focus on ‘safe & healthy food' from plant-based, insect-based, and alternative proteins, functional food & ingredients, etc. With a diversity of agricultural commodities such as rice, cassava, durian, mangosteen, mushroom, coconut, ginger, jackfruit, wolffia, etc. together with quality R&D, Thailand is ready to collaborate with the Netherlands and international communities for a sustainable food system.
