Number of fish farms in Kazakhstan increases 2.5 times in two years
In Kazakhstan, there is an increase in business activity in the field of fish farming. In two years, the number of fish farms in the country has increased 2.5 times, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture reports.
"Compared to 2021, the number of fish farms in 2023 increased by more than 2.5 times and reached 502. The volume of fish cultivation increased from 7 to 17 thousand tonnes," the Ministry of Agriculture summed up.
Commercial fishing is mainly conducted in the Atyrau, Almaty, East Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda and Turkestan regions.
"About 45-50 thousand tonnes of fish are caught annually in the country's natural reservoirs, and this indicator is at a stable level, as measures are being systematically taken to conserve fish resources and other aquatic animals. First of all, it is strengthening the fight against poaching. Along with conservation measures, measures are taken annually to reproduce the fish resources of natural reservoirs by saving fish and their juveniles in the spring and autumn periods, carrying out anti-fishing measures in winter, as well as stocking valuable fish species with juveniles within the framework of state orders and development plans for fisheries entities," the department noted.
In 2023, state-owned fish farming enterprises and private fish farms, within the framework of the state order, raised 100 million pieces of juveniles of valuable fish species, which is 25% more than in 2021. In addition, in 2023, the subjects of fisheries released 162.3 million pieces of juveniles of valuable fish species into fixed reservoirs, which is 29% more than in 2021.
In 2023, about 25 thousand tonnes of more than 50 types of fish products were exported to 21 countries around the world. The largest consumers are Russia, Germany, the Netherlands, Lithuania and China.
