No food waste during the event “Vietnam and the Netherlands working together towards sustainable food systems”
Government officials and business representatives from Vietnam and the Netherlands gathered in Hanoi on 19th of March, 2024 during the event “Working together towards sustainable food systems” to deliberate on collaborative efforts towards developing sustainable food systems amid the prevailing challenges in the agricultural sector. All the fruits and vegetables displayed during the event are donated to VietHarvest for the good use of them.
VietHarvest, founded in 2022, is a sustainable, innovative social enterprise that tackles food waste and hunger, helping to nourish the underserved people in Vietnam. By collecting good quality food for free from food business like hotels, caterers, restaurants and supermarkets that would otherwise go to waste, VietHarvest instead delivers this food to people in need. VietHarvest is constantly looking for new ways to inspire and educate people about food waste, food security and sustainability. Through education programs and advocacy work, VietHarvest hopes to inspire to change behavior and help reach the target of food waste in Vietnam.
With the donation of fresh fruits and vegetables from the event “ Working together towards sustainable food systems”, VietHarvest supported 7 charitable organizations and community centers: KOTO Training Centre - accommodating and teaching street adolescents hospitality skills, GLC Charity Centre - providing free meals to the homeless, Kidney Dialysis Village, Thuong Thuong Handmade - social enterprise offering vocational training and jobs for people living with disabilities and incurable illness, Tinh Tam Vegan Restaurant - providing free meals for cancer dialysis patients, Huong Hai Monastery and Phuc Tue Centre - education center for children with intellectual disabilities.
