Romania will have a new Black Sea port
Romania will have a new Black Sea port which will take over some of the traffic currently choking the port of Constanta, especially after the start of the Russian war against Ukraine which resulted in cereal flows being rerouted through this port.
The new Black Sea port will be built on Romanian territory on the Poarta Albă-Midia Năvodari Canal and will facilitate the berthing and unloading of cargo ships. At present, it takes many days to clear customs.
The new port to be built on the banks of the Poarta Albă-Midia Năvodari Canal will cover an area of 33,000 square metres and workers have already started working on it, according to Digi 24 news channel.
In the coming period, access roads, a 21,000-square-metre operating platform and three berths of 120 square metres each will be built.
Specialists say that such a port was needed, because in recent years the one in Constanta has been very busy, and the trucks carrying various goods, especially grain, stay for days in endless queues.
In addition, on the same canal, another port called Luminița is being rehabilitated to increase the volume of goods transited on inland waterways. This will also relieve the pressure on the port of Constanta. The two projects cost more than 200 million RON (about 40 million EUR) and are funded by the EU.
