Difficult situation on the Polish raspberry market
The prices of raspberries at the wholsale differ significantly from those offered by the retailers in Poland.
In the second half of May, it was already possible to buy the first raspberries at the wholesale market in Poland at a price of 45-55 PLN (10.20-12.50 EUR) per 1 kg. However, the price at retailers was much higher (125 g packages cost as much as 10-15 PLN – 2.30-3.40 EUR). Currently, at the wholesale market, one kg of raspberries has to be paid from 10 to 16 PLN (2.30 to 3.60 EUR), and at retail, 125 g already cost about 3 PLN (0.70 EUR).
The National Agricultural Advisory Center in Poland calculates that this year the production of 1 kg of raspberries is 7.44 PLN (1.70 EUR).
According to experts, the following are responsible for the low purchase price of raspberries in Poland:
- the reconstruction of crop acreage, which influenced the higher supply of domestic raw material,
- the increase in the cost of acquisition by processing plants, which could inhibit the demand for raspberries and increase stocks,
- the import of frozen fruit to Poland (mainly from Morocco and Ukraine), and
- the small export of fruit from the country abroad.
