Egypt: Further delays for ISEG Halal certification
Have you been preparing to certify your food exports with ISEG Halal? Note there more time to get ready.
Last year, The Egyptian government announced that ISEG Halal would be the only competent authority recognized by the Egyptian government to issue Halal certificates for all food products and factories. All imported food products were announced be Halal certified by ISEG Halal to enter Egypt. Due to the lack of clarity on the implementation of this decision, the Egyptian government has decided to postpone applying this decision till 1st of October. Last Dec, the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry submitted addendum to WTO concerning the new implementation date of ISEG Halal. From 1st of April 2023, it will be mandatory for all dairy companies exporting from the Netherlands (and other markets) to have ISEG Halal certificate to be able to continue exporting to Egypt.
It's still uncertain if the applying ISEG Halal will be postponed again or not. We are advising Dutch companies to start applying of ISEG certificate as soon as possible.
The agricultural team of the embassy will follow up on developments and stand ready to provide updates when needed: KAI-LNV@minbuza.nl
