Doing business in Tanzania: updates regarding COVID-19

Update 21 June 2021

• As at 6th  April 2021, no official data and report on Covid-19  the country stopped publishing data on Covid since 29^th April 2020 which stands at 509 confirmed cases and 21 confirmed deaths. Travelers are required to complete an online Health Surveillance Form (https://afyamsafiri.moh.go.tz/) within 24 hours prior to arrival. Travelers will then receive a Unique Health Code (UHC), which they will present to health officials upon arrival.
• All travelers are required to present a negative COVID-19 test certificate upon arrival. The test must be a Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test, with the sample collected within 72 hours before arrival in Tanzania.
• Tanzania announced a new travel advisory note effective from 4th  May, 2021 aiming at controlling Covid-19. The advisory note includes 14 day mandatory quarantine for people arriving into the country. All travelers including foreigners or returning residents will be required to present a negative Covid-19 test certificate upon arrival. • The EAC Secretariat argued to  fast track regional coordination and harmonization of measures on COVID-19 for economic resilience and growth of the EAC block. Currently, Covid-19 tests are priced differently in each EAC partner state while containment measures are also varied. See more about this article in the Citizen.

• President Samia Suluhu Hassan assigned a scientific committee of experts on COVID-19 to advice the government. This committee recently presented a report with recommendations, including the recommendation that the government should allow the free use of the COVID-19 vaccines, should provide information on the presence of the disease and take steps to strengthen all preventive measures to avoid a possible third wave coming from India.

• The European Commission’s response to COVID-19 includes a number of restrictions to transport, which can be found on the website of the European Commission.
