The agri-food team at the Dutch Embassy in Warsaw is looking for a senior agricultural policy advisor! While our focus is on Poland, we are also working as the agri-food team for Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

The Dutch Agricultural Attaché Network
The Dutch Agricultural Network (LAN) represents the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) in the areas of Agriculture, Food and Nature abroad and maintains intensive contacts with the local governments, the Dutch and local business community, knowledge institutes and civil-society organisations.
For a century the LAN has been connecting products, services and knowledge of Dutch agricultural companies and knowledge institutions to partners and projects worldwide. In this way, LNV and LAN contribute to a strong agricultural sector in the Netherlands and sustainable development goals in the agricultural and nature domain far beyond the borders. The LAN makes an essential contribution to strengthening the international position of Dutch agribusiness and supports policy development, dialogue and (bilateral and multilateral) cooperation in the field of sustainable agriculture, nature / biodiversity, food safety, food security and fisheries. Trade promotion, stimulating Dutch investments abroad, and promoting market access for Dutch agri-food products and knowledge and technology in the country of representation are also belonging to its core tasks.
The LAN is characterized by a proactive attitude and shows this by actively searching for opportunities for Dutch agricultural business, knowledge institutes and policymakers, being in direct contact with relevant players and by communication via reports, newsletters, social media and the LAN website www.agroberichtenbuitenland.nl
Job description
The senior Agricultural Policy Advisor:
- Identifies, establishes and maintains independently and proactively a relevant network of contacts with government organizations, knowledge institutes, sector organizations, business community and civil society organizations;
- Identifies, collects, analyzes, interprets and reports on developments in agriculture (including plant and animal health), nature, food and fisheries in Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic that are important for the policy development of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV).
- Contributes to the development of LNV policy in Poland, Slovakia and Czech Republic by identifying and analyzing relevant data and developments in the agrifood sector and translates these into (policy) proposals for bilateral and international cooperation and reports and shares these with relevant stakeholders in the Netherlands;
- Identifies, organizes and evaluates bilateral cooperation projects in the field of sustainable agri-food production, circular agriculture, nature and environment, food safety and food security and does this in consultation with governmental organizations, knowledge institutes and or other relevant organizations;
- Collecting and providing market information, local (veterinary and phytosanitary) legislation, regulation and analyses for Dutch agrifoodbusiness with the aim of market development in the working area.
- Adopts a proactive and independent approach to resolve bottlenecks, taking into account the differences in complex regulations and culture and searches for the appropriate measures;
- (S)he collects relevant information about (policy) developments and trade and investment opportunities from literature, reports, newsletters (specialist) media and network contacts, which (s)he independently analyses and interprets and shares with interested parties in the Netherlands.
- Organizes official visits, trade and policy missions, seminars / webinars, workshops, trade fair activities, networking events and other activities, including suggesting (Dutch) speakers for activities organized by Polish stakeholders to share Dutch knowledge and expertise.
- Participates in seminars and networking opportunities and (re-)presents LNV interest and policy.
- Keeps track of trade requests, activities and contacts in the relevant databases.

- Reports proactively to the Agricultural Counsellor who carries final responsibility.
Job requirements
General
- Academic working and thinking level;
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience
Knowledge
- Knowledge of and insight into agricultural policy areas, relevant legislation and regulations and agricultural business, sector organizations and knowledge institutes;
- Knowledge of and insights into the Polish government structure, society, current agricultural policy developments and trading position. Knowledge of and insights into the developments of Slovakia and Czech Republic is an advantage;
- Good knowledge of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and agro-environmental policy is recommended, as well as knowledge about veterinary and phytosanitary legislation;
- An appropriate network of contacts in relevant fields is an advantage;
- Good verbal and written command of Polish and of English is required;
- A command of the Dutch language is desirable or a willingness to learn Dutch as well as familiarity with and ability to adapt to Dutch culture and customs.
Skills
- Good communication and contact skills;
- Is a natural networker and has the capacity to build, maintain and expand a network of contacts in all relevant fields and on all levels;
- Is able to work independently within a broad defined task assignment and to determine his / her approach on his / her initiative;
- Is able to analyse and translate insights and information into policy recommendation, works plans and reports;
- Good computer skills and experience with various computer programs.
Embassy
The Agricultural Network (LAN) falls within the organisational structure of the Embassy and the LAN team is part of the Economic Cluster of the Netherlands Embassy in Warsaw. The Agricultural Counsellor is the overall manager of the LAN which consists of a Senior Policy Advisor Agriculture and a Junior Policy Advisor Agriculture. An annual plan forms the basis for management and activities. For Slovakia and the Czech Republic, this is done in close cooperation with the Netherlands Embassies in Bratislava and Prague.
What do we offer?
A full-time appointment (37,5 hours) on scale 9 on the basis of an employment contract under local law on the basis of the terms of employment as included in the Legal Status Regulation for locally employed employees (Rrlok 2005) and the postal details of the Dutch Embassy in Warsaw.
