Launching Lexikan.id, an evidence-based policymaking in Indonesian fisheries sector
Jakarta – On January 28th, 2021, The Lexikan.id team together with Hukum online organized a webinar with the topic "Launching Lexikan.id, an Evidence-Based Policymaking in Indonesian Fisheries Sector".
The purpose of the event was to introduce the Lexikan.id website to the wider community and to stimulate a proper use of it. In addition, the webinar also discusses the importance of Evidence-Based in terms of policy making related to Marine Affairs and Fisheries. Multidisciplinary discussions are needed in order to create optimal l policies.
In addition to the introduction of the new website, step by step an explanation was given for the data search on legal and regulatory information. This hands-on training was done by Mr. Muhammad Faiz Aziz, S.H., S.IP., LL.M. as Director of Partnership and Cooperation, PSHK & Lexikan.id Team. What is interesting is that in the data center section data is provided on laws and regulations, policies, court decisions, and international legal instruments related to the fisheries sector in Indonesia. This page is created to provide access to the public and the data will be updated regularly by the Lexikan Team.
To build collaboration between experts, policy makers, practitioners, and the wider community who are concerned about fisheries and marine development in Indonesia, this webinar also invited several Key-note speakers who explained about the benefits of Evidence-Based in Fisheries Policy Making; Ir. Muhammad Zaini, MM, as Acting Director General of Capture Fisheries, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, from the Research and Development institution that supporting Evidence-Based Policy in the Fisheries Sector, Ms. Stephanie Juwana, S.H., Director of International Engagement and Policy Reform, Indonesia Ocean Justice Initiative – IOJI and from education practitioners, Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Ari Purbayanto, Msc., Professor of the Department of Fisheries Resources Utilization, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, IPB University, who explained about the Fisheries Information System and How It Should Encourage the Benefit of the System for Small Fishermen.
The webinar ended with an interesting discussion with the participants. Many questions came from students asking about the readiness of fishermen in Indonesia in the 4.0 fisheries development strategy, as well as the readiness of the government which must have the right and integrated policies and roadmap in the management and development of the fisheries sector and national maritime affairs.
