Export of Dutch pepper to Poland increased in 2020
The sales abroad of Dutch pepper increased by 5% in 2020 compares to 2019. After Ireland, the sales increased the most in Poland with approximately 22%. Also neighboring countries Germany (+ 12%) and the United Kingdom (+ 10%) bought more Dutch peppers.
Pepper sales on the Dutch market were on the rise in 2020. Supermarkets in the Netherlands sold 18% more than a year ago. On the other hand, due to the lockdown, fewer bell peppers were processed by restaurants and caterers. Due to high transport costs and fewer flights, exports to distant destinations fell significantly. For example, exports to the US halved in 2020.

Fruit& vege directly from producers- new strategy of Biedronka stores
Biedronka focuses on cooperation with local Polish producers of vegetables and fruit. At the end of 2021, 90% of sales of these vegetables and fruits, which are grown in Poland, will come from domestic producers, with an increased share of supplies from small family farms. They will be able to deliver products to the nearest Biedronka distribution center. Thanks to the shorter route from field to shelf, deliveries will be made in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way.
This strategic action will be possible, among others thanks to the introduction of a new structure in the purchasing department of the largest retail chain in Poland. At the beginning of the year, Biedronka introduces new positions - local buyers of vegetables and fruits. Their task will be to establish cooperation with smaller producers of vegetables and fruit. Merchants will go to Poland, they will visit farms and agricultural exchanges to look for new partners, e.g. small family farms.
