Poland: new province affected with H5N8 avian influenza
As informed by Polish Veterinary Service, based on the results of tests obtained from the national reference laboratory for avian influenza on 26 January 2020, an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) was designated in the territory of Warminsko-Mazurskie province.
Outbreak No. 2020/15 was designated on a farm where 23.351 turkeys for fattening were kept, located in the town of Rąbity, in the commune of Zalewo, in the Iławski district, in the Warminsko-Mazurskie province. There are not many poultry farms in the infected commune.
So far 18 outbreaks of H5N8 in poultry were noted in Poland in 2019/2020: 8 outbreaks in Lubelskie province, 7 outbreaks in Wielkopolskie province, 1 outbreak in Zachodniopomorskie province, 1 outbreak in Dolnoslaskie province and 1 outbreak in Warminsko-Mazurskie province.
