Flower Forum to be held in Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar
On 4th December 2019 a first Flower Forum event will be held in one of the mountainous flower production cities in Shan-State, Myanmar called ‘Pyin Oo Lwin’, also named the ‘Flower Garden of Myanmar’.
Last year, the ‘Myanmar Flower Sector Quick Scan Report’ was launched and discussed already with the Dutch flower industry as well as relevant public stakeholders in Myanmar as the Myanmar Ministry of Agriculture Livestock and Irrigation (MoALI) and Yezin Agricultural University. However, the report is still not discussed with the private flower sector in Myanmar. The sector report was prepared by a Dutch consultancy, GMBS Business Support, on assignment of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency-RVO and the Netherlands Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar.
The primary goal of the Flower Forum is therefore to inform the Myanmar local flower sector actors of the report outcomes by means of brining the different stakeholders together (growers, traders, wholesalers, input suppliers). Additionally, the forum aims to identify possible interventions and solutions that cater to the organization and professionalization of a sustainable flower sector in Myanmar.
The forum is an initiative taken by Horticulture Working Group from Myanmar Agriculture Network (MAN), contributed by the Netherlands Government. MAN is a network established in 2013 and has been serving as a multi-stakeholder platform to accelerate partnership, investment for a sustainable and inclusive agricultural growth in Myanmar. GMBS Business Support has been contracted as an international expert to organize and facilitate a one day programme of the Flower Forum Myanmar.
