Taiwan Circular Agriculture Forum and Asia Agri-tech Expo
International Forum on “Innovative Cross-Sectoral Linkage for Circular Agriculture” was held from October 31 to November 1 by the Agricultural Council in Taipei, and was co-organized by the Netherlands Trade and Investment Office (NTIO), together with the Danish Business Office. Experts and scholars from the three countries shared the latest technology and development trends on circular agriculture, with reference to environmental sustainability, food safety and economic benefits. At the same time the Holland Pavilion was presented in Asia- Pacific Agricultural Technology Exhibition in the same venue.
Circular Agriculture Forum
In response to the UN Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Council of the Agriculture in Taiwan is keen to promote its new circular agriculture. The Netherlands shares similar views with regards to circular agriculture and published its own policy on circular agriculture in 2018. In view of the Asia- Pacific Agricultural Technology Exhibition, the Netherlands together with Denmark were invited to organize a circular agriculture forum where experts could share innovative business networking models, and share lessons learnt from cross-sectoral policies for a circular with respect for nature and humans.
The two-days forum attracted more than 200 participants, with many speakers from Taiwan, the Netherlands and Denmark with focus on Circular Agriculture. Experts from the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food security, Wageningen University & Research and Lely emphasized that the key to the success of circular agriculture lies in the responsibility of all sectors in the value chain and the consumers. Also it was emphasized that companies should sell and produce products that are beneficial to a sustainable environment. Examples of possible solutions on livestock circular agriculture, and technology such as big data and sensors application was also brought to the audience.
During the closing ceremony the Netherlands took the opportunity to present the Vision and Policy of the Netherlands, translated to Chinese, on Circular Agriculture to the Council of Agriculture.
Also the three parties organized side event together on “The Beauty of Ugly Food”, to promote the food waste campaign as one of the pillars for a successful circular agriculture policy.
Asia Agri-tech Expo
In the Holland Pavilion at the Asia Agri-tech Expo, the Dutch companies, Fancom, Vencomatic, DSM Taiwan and Perfotec were present, offering state of the art and innovative solutions to challenges in the agriculture sector. The expo attracted more than 22,000 visitors from 40 countries and regions in 3 days.
