Spain, 2nd sheep cheese producer in Europe
With more than 2 million dairy sheep, in 2017, Spain allocated 510 million liters of milk to cheese making, which made it the second producer country in Europe, only behind Italy.

Its 7,000 farms are housing more than 2 million sheep, which, in 2017, produced 510 million liters of milk for cheese making. This sector generates more than €400 million per year.
By regions, Castilla y León produces 58% of the total, followed by Castilla-La Mancha (31%).
Regarding the number of animals, Spain ranks fourth with 9.7% of total. Romania (30.5% of total), Greece (25.4%) and Italy (21%) are ahead.
