A Spanish company develops a test to detect transgenics in food and feed
Sistemas Genómicos has created GMO SGtesting which identifies and quantifies the presence of transgenic material in some of the most common raw materials for human and animal consumption, such as corn, soybeans and rapeseed.
The test ensures that the transgenic varieties present in food or feed are the ones authorized by the EU legislation and remain within the limits set.
The biggest innovation that GMO SGtesting brings is that it is also capable of detecting "non-authorized" transgenic varieties, whose entry into the EU is strictly prohibited, being the only test able of doing so in Europe.
