India may bring new regulation to promote animal welfare in poultry sector
The regulation is expected to be in place where a distinction is drawn between produce obtained from cage-free farming and the one obtained from battery - cage (confinement) farming.
Poultry sector in India has observed rapid growth over the last decade or so and shows promising potential. Export has also contributed to the increase in demand. However to address global concern over unhygienic conditions of poultry farms in India, the Government may bring new regulations under the prevention of cruelty to animals act.
