Vietnam to have 184 fishing ports by 2050

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the draft master plan on the system of fishing ports and storm shelters for fishing vessels in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050 is being consulted by ministries, sectors and localities. The target set by 2050 is that the whole country will have 184 fishing ports, meeting the total amount of seafood passing through the port of about 2.983 million tons/year and 160 anchorage areas to avoid storms for fishing vessels.

By 2030 alone, the whole country will have 176 fishing ports, including 37 grade I fishing ports, 90 grade II fishing ports, 49 grade III fishing ports, meeting the total volume of seafood through the port of about 2,96 million tons/year and 160 anchorage areas to avoid storms for fishing vessels (including 30 regional zones, 130 provincial areas), accommodating some 90,600 fishing vessels.

In the period of 2021-2030, there will be important national projects to build 5 fishing ports of class I as dynamic fishing ports in major fisheries centers including Bach Dang fishing port in Hai Phong city; Tho Quang fishing port in Da Nang city; Ba Bac fishing port in Khanh Hoa province; Go Gang fishing port in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and Tac Cau fishing port in Kien Giang province. At the same time, the government prioritizes investment in building infrastructure and essential logistics services for fishing ports and other storm shelters.

The system of fishing ports and storm shelters for fishing vessels belongs to the fishery infrastructure system, which plays an important role in the sustainable development of the fishery industry.

Over the years, the system of fishing ports and storm shelters for fishing vessels has gradually grown in both quantity and scale, initially meeting the development goals in accordance with the approved planning, meeting the requirements of the Government. socio-economic development, ensuring national security.
