Vietnam is the largest coffee supplier to Japan

Generally, in the first 4 months of 2022, Vietnam exported 45,139 tons of coffee to this market, equivalent to 110.1 million USD, up 11.4% and 45.4%, respectively.

In the first quarter of 2022, Vietnam's coffee exports to Japan reached 45,139 tons, worth 110 million USD. Robusta coffee alone accounts for 86% of the export volume to this market, about 30,100 tons, reaching 61.8 million USD, up 36.6% in value compared to the first quarter of 2021.

In the first quarter of 2022, Vietnam sharply increased the proportion of processed coffee exports to Japan, reaching 16.3 million USD, up 63.6% over the same period last year.

However, compared to other markets, Vietnam’s coffee price in this market is relatively low. According to information from Japan, the average coffee export price of Vietnam to this market reached 1,991 USD per ton. Meanwhile, other markets in the top 5 markets are Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, and Tanzania, with 3,141, 5,212, 3,790 and 4,999 USD per ton, respectively.

In April, 2022, coffee prices to this market recorded signs of prosperity. Specifically, the average export price of Vietnamese coffee to Japan reached  2,458 USD per ton, recorded a slight increase over the previous month and up 15.8% over the same period last year. Generally, in the first 4 months of 2022, the average export coffee price to Japan reached 2,440 USD per ton, an increase of 28.2% over the same period last year.

In the coming time, the coffee industry has a strategy to focus on developing processed coffee (roasted and ground coffee, instant coffee ...) instead of focusing on the quantity of coffee beans.
