Vietnam: weekly summary of agriculture news (10/01/2022 – 16/01/ 2022)
A weekly summary of agriculture development and production in Vietnam by VietLinh online.
Aquaculture:
In the period of 2021 - 2025, Ben Tre Province has been implementing a project to develop 4,000 hectares of high-tech shrimp farming. This project is concentrated in 3 coastal districts of Binh Dai, Ba Tri and Thanh Phu.
After 1 year of implementation, the results were evaluated by localities as positive. The project is likely to finish early, before 2025.
Up to now, the total area of shrimp farming applying high technology in the province is estimated at about 2,000 hectares, reaching 100% of the plan and increasing by 22% compared to 2020. The average yield is 60-70 tons/hectare; the production is estimated at 40,000 tons.
In addition to high-tech shrimp farming, in recent years, the agricultural sector has also implemented many models and projects promoting high-tech shrimp farming, such as raising all-male giant river prawn in rice fields or specializing in crayfish farming.
Processing, Import and Export:
In 2021, shrimp processing is considered one of the bright spots of Ca Mau Province's seafood industry. Despite the impact of Covid-19, local businesses made great efforts to implement solutions to both prevent, control the pandemic and develop appropriate production plans.
Accordingly, the province’s output of processed shrimp in 2021 is still estimated at 170,000 tons, an increase of over 15% compared to 2020; export turnover reached over $1.1 billion, up 9.5% over the same period last year.
In 2022, as the pandemic situation is still complicated and unpredictable, Ca Mau Province will continue to focus on implementing the goal of safe, flexible adaptation to seafood production and effective control of the pandemic.
Cau Mau Province aims to carry out its seafood production in large volume in association with the high-tech processing industry, develop farming and processing sustainably to adapt to climate change, as well as adhere to domestic and international standards.
