Thai-Dutch Sustainable Livestock Forum 2019 - over 200 audiences across Thailand

Over 200 participants from livestock sector across Thailand joined the first Thai – Dutch Sustainable Livestock Forum 2019 in Bangkok last week. The Forum aimed to highlight strong Thai-Dutch livestock collaboration in livestock industry, not only in trade but also on academic level to ensure sustainable livestock value chain for global food safety and food security.

Vasit Taepaisitphong, CEO of Betagro Group, one of the country largest poultry and pig integrated operator was Guest of Honour at the Forum to share his view on Innovation in Poultry Industry; What’s Ahead in Asia Poultry and Protein.

“People must have choice and access to better quality, more safe and fair price foods which is essential to human life and foundation of sustainable development. Poultry meat is considered the most comsumed protein with 38% of global meat consumption compare with 36% and 21% of pork and beef respectively. Thailand is the 4th largest poultry exporter after Brazil, USA and EU. 65% of export from Thailand are cooked frozen poultry. The strength of Thai poultry industry is effective biosecurity system and animal welfare standard and knowledge (technology)”.

Phon Suchaovanich, Director from Thai Feed Mill Association indicated that the annual value of feed mill industry is estimated at 9,000 US $ from 100 factories nationwide. The approach of feed industry in Thailand is safety, security and sustainability to cover with international standards.

The first Thai – Dutch Sustainable Livestock Forum 2019 in Bangkok is organized by LNV at Netherlands Embassy in Bangkok together with Kasetsart University. The Forum is co-organized by Thai Holstein Friesian Association, Animal Husbandry Association of Thailand and The Federation of Thai Industries. Thanks to the Dutch Livestock Delegation for sharing their knowledge and experiences in innovative sustainable livestock value chain.

During the same evening, Willem Schoustra, Dutch Agricultural Counsellor (Thailand & Vietnam) hosted Thai – Dutch Livestock Network Reception at the Residence of the Ambassador to connect livestock industry players from Thailand and the Netherlands. More than 100 guests from livestock business & industry, Ministry, Association, Universities and Press were invited to join.

“Stakeholders in livestock protein chain are well aware of the challenges the industry is facing. It’s time to collaborate together to solve – apply new way of thinking, new innovation & technology as well as new business models to ensure our animal based protein from livestock value chain are sustainable for the our planet. The Netherlands has been internationally recognized as the agricultural and agro-food giant. The Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) recently launched Circular Agriculture and Farming the Future for an international sustainable agro-food value chain. LNV at the Netherlands Embassy in Thailand and Vietnam is ready to connect and facilitate Dutch companies and institutes for sustainable agro-food, livestock & horticulture collaboration with contact in Thailand and Vietnam”, Willem said.
