Cereal, wine and olive oil production plummet in Spain
Adverse weather reduces olive harvesting by 33%, cereal production contrats by 24% and wine production would also be drastically reduced.
In the case of olive oil production will be just over 1.2 million tons, compared to about 1.8 million last season. In Andalucía, the main producing region, it will not reach one million tons; this figure represents a reduction of 32.7% compared to the previous season and 6.9% compared to the average of the last five seasons.
Meanwhile, in the 2019/20 campaign, wine production could reach 36.64 million hectoliters. This is a big fall compared to the previous campaign, when it reached 50 million hectoliters. Of this volume, 18.6 million correspond to Castilla-La Mancha.
Finally, cereal production will stand at 18.27 million tons, according to the latest estimates. Consequently it will make a 24.10% drop in relation to the previous season production. However, these estimates are 4.4% higher than last July’s forecast.
