Biscuit International strengthens in Spain purchasing Arluy
The multinational Biscuit International, the result of the merger of the French Poult and the Dutch Banketgroep in 2016, has certified its presence in the Spanish market with the acquisition of the Spanish Arluy.
This operation will allow the biscuits' multinational to grow within the Spanish market, where it is already present manufacturing under the retailers’ brand of some references for chains such as Alcampo, Carrefour or Dia.
With the incorporation of La Rioja-based Arluy, Biscuit International will reinforce its presence in Spain since Arluy has currently agreements with the main retails in Spain (Mercadona, Dia, Alcampo, El Corte Inglés, Eroski, etc).
For its part, the operation will guarantee Arluy the possibility of gaining presence in Europe. At this moment, Arluy ranks sixth in the Spanish biscuit market, with revenues of €55 million in 2017, expecting to increase to €58.5 in 2018. Of its total sales, 20% came from exports.
This operation will allow Biscuit International to continue its consolidation as one of the leading manufacturers of private label sweet biscuits in Europe. This position has been achieved in recent years via acquisitions, since, in addition to Arluy, it also incorporated the British NFF, the German A&W Feinbackwaren and the Dutch Stroopwafel&Co. Its annual income is about €390 million euro. Of this amount, 60% came from outside France, especially from the Netherlands and Germany.
With the purchase of Arluy, Buiscuit International sales will represent more than 10% of the European private label sweet biscuit market, and Spain will become its fourth market.
