Spanish Government to invest €525 million to extend broadband to all rural areas
The President of the Government has announced that, in 2021, all Spanish population centers will have Internet access of at least 300 megabits per second, thanks to an investment of 525 million euro.
During the presentation of the Plan for the Broadband Extension, the President explained that the country already has high-capacity networks which cover 76% of its population, but that doesn’t mean that they also cover the whole territory. "There are precisely the less populated areas that can benefit the most from technological advances".
The President stressed that a shared demand among all public administrations is to guarantee the connection to broadband Internet in rural areas as an instrument to fight against the problem of depopulation.
The planned investment is 525 million euro, between 2018 and 2021.
