Spanish agro-food trade balance closed 2017 with a new surplus
The balance of foreign trade in agro-food products was settled in 2017 with a surplus of €11 billion, 2.4% more than in 2016.
Between January and December 2017, Spanish agro-food exports reached a value of €45,8 billion (+6.3%), compared to imports of €34,7 billion (+7.6%).

The sector with the highest surplus was fruit and vegetables, with a balance of €12 billion (+1.5%). There was also a surplus in the meat products exchanges (€4,7 billion; +9.8%), beverages (€2,2 billion; +10.8%) and oils and fats (€2 billion; +0.8%).
Considering all sectors of the Spanish economy, in 2017, foreign trade registered a deficit of €24,7 billion (+31.9%). Exports increased by 8.9% reaching €277 billion and imports also rose by 10.5% reaching €302 billion.
Food, beverages and tobacco sector accounted for 16.5% of the total exports, ranking second after capital goods (20.3%) and followed by the automobile sector (16.3%). Regarding imports, the agro-food sector ranked sixth with a share of 11.5%.
