Argentina captures a Spanish vessel with 320 tons of fish
The ship “Playa Pesmar Uno”, with 34 crew on board, has been captured for “illegal fishing”, according to Argentinian authorities.
The vessel, a trawler of 63 meters in length, based in the port of Marín (Pontevedra), and owned by Pesmar, had in its cellar 320 tons of fresh and processed fish, “valued at a millionaire sum”.
The intercepted boat was “illegally fishing” in the Argentina’s EEZ. The fine that will be imposed would be between 5 and 10 million pesos (206,000-413,000 dollars).
The ship-owner maintains that the vessel “fishes in the Falkland’s but unload in Uruguay, so it is normal that its route follows a straight line across Argentinian waters”.
