Big commotion because of a tv show about the Spanish pig sector
A national tv channel has issued the program “What is it behind the meat industry in Spain?” denouncing animal abuse in farms and slaughterhouses. It is receiving strong criticism from the sector that acusses it of being “captious” by “presenting some isolated and out of context facts as if that were the reality”.
Not being allowed to access to any farm, the program’s director chose to sneak into one of them, supplier of the Murcia-based ElPozo, from the hand of the NGO Igualdad Animal. The “very hard” images were taken at night, after accessig the facilities without authorization.
The program got the collaboration of the MEP Florent Marcellesi, from Equo-Primavera Europa, who made statements on the excecissive meat consumption in Europe.
Among the many reactions, apart from that of the company concerned, stands out the Interbranch Organization’s, recallind that Spain applies the EU model of production and complies with the “most demanding” legislation in the world in terms of animal welfare and food safety.
