In the last 8 years, as a consequence of the tariff-free import regimen “Everything but Arms” that benefits Cambodia, the entry of Cambodian rice into the EU has increased by 40%, raising its market share from 6% to 16% in this period of time.
With prices 30% lower than the Europeans, the acreage devoted to rice production in the EU has been reduced by 42% in just 6 years.
MEPs have asked the Commission to take measures to protect European growers against their competitive disadvantage.
